We adopted Moose in March 2007 as a companion to our lab/shepard mix Ike. When we met w/ the Help Save Pets staff they first asked us what dogs we were interested in seeing. So we of course wanted a smaller dog since we already had a behemoth of a dog. So we go through a couple of hound mixes and a corgi mix and they are all terrified of Ike and Ike is basically playing with them like rag dolls. This wasn’t going well and we were there an hour already with no hope of finding Ike a friend. Finally, our HSP rep said there was a new pup that just came in from Terre Haute, IN and needed some socialization and maybe he and Ike might hit it off. We said sure and a few minutes later, a shy little brownish red pup named Moose poked his head around the corner. He slowly came in and sat by the door. Ike ran right for him and Moose ran away and the two were chasing each other. Then Ike barreled into Moose and knocked him down. I was worried Moose was going to come whimpering but instead he got up, shook it off and kept playing. My husband and I said in unison “This is the dog.” 5 years later, Moose and Ike are inseparable. They do EVERYTHING together. Moose was such a blessing, he was already potty trained, he never barks or howls unless something is really off and he’s got the cutest under bite with a snaggle tooth ever!. He’s really wonderful and we all love him to pieces.
Thank you for all that you do at HSP!
